What are WordPress Block Plugins?
Block plugins add to the number of blocks available to you when you use the block editor (Gutenberg) in WordPress.
Default blocks are good enough for basic web pages. They allow you to add headings, paragraphs and images to your content. The problem is you’re quite limited by the types of blocks available to you as well as how you’re able to use individual blocks.
Some block plugins even have page building capabilities, allowing you to build entire web pages and sections of web pages with blocks alone.
Here are a few terms to know about block plugins:
- Blocks – Elements or modules that allow you to add specific pieces of content to a web page, such as an image, icon box or button.
- Sections – Multiple blocks that are grouped together.
- Patterns – Prebuilt blocks or sections you can reuse and add to other web pages.
- Templates – Pre-designed web pages made with the block editor.
- Full-Site Editing (FSE) – A feature that gives you more control over how your site looks and behaves, including being able to use the block editor to build your own header and footer designs.
